“The eye is always caught by light, but shadows have more to say” – Gregory Maguire
I came across this quote today. Upon reading it I knew and felt that it was something I’ve always deeply resonated with.
This wedding in a foreign, far away, and beautiful place exemplifies this quote in my eyes. Why? Because there’s so much light… the unreal backdrop which basically you can’t go wrong with… the intimate & romantic feeling of committing a lifetime to someone in a distant, secluded, and private part of the world… and of course the whole trip feels like a mini or full on vacation as well.
What did the shadows of this wedding, the parts that don’t catch your eye, what did they have to say? Well first off, I definitely need to commend these two. They absolutely accepted and embraced the mindstate of ‘whatever happens happens’ and ‘we’ll just go with the flow’. Remembering back onto this day, I think it’d be safe to say that it had around 4 or 5 mini showers throughout the day. I think 2 or 3 of those mini showers happened during the 15-20min ceremony itself forcing us to pause/hide-under-a-tree-/resume a few times. Any other bride & groom I wouldn’t even blame them if they freaked out a bit or let it bring their energy down.
But not these two. Not at all.
From the morning hike they went on together as a family before they got ready, to the rain coming down on them the first time right after or even during their first look, and all the way to the end when they all decided to jump into the pool together – their energy was radiating the entire day with positivity.
A truly heartfelt thanks to these two and all the couples that trust us enough to fly us thousand of miles away from home to document and capture such a moment. It will always be a surreal moment to photograph these shadows of the day.
