We all of course know that weddings are super serious things. And as they should be. Two people out of the 7 billion on earth stand before their closest family and friends and commit to live with and for one another. And they vow to do so regardless of whatever jump-for-joy or world-crashing-down things may happen to them. Super serious stuff right?
I knew starting my photography business 5 years ago that there was enough seriousness with weddings already. I wanted not only my photographs but also my voice (through the words on this blog) to show that it’s OK to be a bit more lighthearted and whimsical in the wedding world. Especially as there’s so many awkward yet hilarious moments when documenting people in love.
Because what’s the story of love in actuality? How did this marriage come to be? The “traditional” story is kind of something like this if you will: Boy meets girl. Boy and girl start talking. A lot. Boy and girl start hanging out. A lot. Friends of said boy & girl are suspicious (either they appear super happy all the time now or they’ve suddenly stopped appearing). Either boy or girl make the first move. Things progress, yadda yadda. At some point boy or girl bring up the infamous “what are we?” question. Soon afterwards boy and girl become “official”. Boy and girl stay official for some time. Boy decides to get down on one knee (metaphorically/literally). Girl (hopefully) says yes. Boy and girl then spend more or less 365 days planning for a specific 24-hour block. And voilà here we are.
Why do I say all this? I without a doubt want to thank all of my couples in 2016 for allowing me to capture the seriousness and immenseness of all the emotions on a wedding day. There’s no doubt about that. But I equally want to thank all of my couples for also allowing me to capture the goofy, funny, and you-wish-that-never-happened-but-you-also-are-so-happy-that-it-did embarrassing moments that also happen on a wedding day.
Thank you. Truly. I never planned on becoming a photographer, but if there was suddenly some weird reset in life and everyone had to start all over again. You can bet your a** I would do this ALL over again.
I definitely also want to give a huge thank you to my secondary photographers primarily Titus from Norr Studio, Mike from Ballad Photography, and Therese from Artiese Studios for lending me your time and your creative eye.
Finally… anyways… if you made it this far, here are some moments from my 2016. Weddings & travel related.
